Fudge Pie - Breakfast of Champions
My mama made this pie. It's one of her signature recipes.
Fudge Pie, Courtesy of Southern Living
Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter or margarine
3 (1-ounce) unsweetened chocolate squares
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted and divided
Toppings: vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup
Directions:
Cook butter and chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring often until melted.
Beat eggs at medium speed with an electric mixer 5 minutes. Gradually add sugar, beating until blended. Gradually add chocolate mixture, flour, and vanilla, beating until blended. Stir in 1/2 cup pecans.
Pour mixture into a lightly greased 9-inch pieplate.
Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes or until center is firm. Cool. Top each serving with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup; sprinkle with remaining chopped pecans.

I was so glad to hear that you also loved Screen Doors and Sweet Tea too. It really is a fun book with lots of great stories and recipes.
Your mom's fudge pie looks like a great way to start the day.
I love pie for breakfast! My favorite is a slice of cold pumpkin pie with a cup of coffee on the day after Thanksgiving. Heavenly!
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack time...I'd eat that pie anytime!! YUM! Mom has great taste!
You must thank your mother for this wonderful recipe. I would love a slice right about now. ;)

Jennifurla - yes ma'am. It was a sinful day all starting with that pie...
Thomas - so glad you remember this pie! She still makes it often.
Kim - I love that you find Screen Doors as enjoyable as I do. One of my pipe dreams is to take a road trip and go to Martha's cooking school for a day. Would be incredible!
Heidi - I'm with you. I actually believe pumpkin pie is a healthy way to start the day. It's got fiber, right?
Jenn - Same here. Which is why I now have to ban this pie from my house for a little while...
Diana - I wish I could send you some! I wonder how it would hold up in the mail...
